World Travel Market (WTM) has reported a three per cent rise to this year’s trade exhibition, according to unaudited figures.
Organiser
Reed Travel Exhibitions said almost 29,000 trade visitors attended the
event at Excel London on 5-8 November (pending ABC audit), and added
that visitors to its first exhibitor-invite only day were up five per
cent. This compared to 28,183 trade professionals in 2011.
The
organiser claimed the Monday Speed Networking session was a particular
highlight and attracted 498 exhibitors, a record figure. In addition,
210 WTM Meridian Club buyers discussed business deals before the
exhibition floor opened.
Across the other days, Wednesday 7
November proved the strongest, witnessing a nine per cent visitor
increase year-on-year. According to last year’s ABC audit, the show
attracted 32,096 unique visitors including the trade, press, students
and ministers.
“Every single day experienced an increase in
visitors, which demonstrates how WTM delivers for its exhibitors,” Exhibition Director, Simon Press, said.
“WTM 2011 facilitated an
impressive £1.63bn in industry deals. I am confident the increased
visitor numbers alongside the success of the Speed Networking events
will see WTM 2012 responsible for almost £2bn in travel deals.”
