World Travel Market (WTM) 2013, which takes place next week at Excel London, is set to boost the London economy by more than £160m.

The event runs 4-7 November and organisers expect to attract 50,000 of the global travel and tourism industry’s most senior executives.

Business deals worth more than £2bn are expected to be triggered by the event, while visitors will pump £160m into the capital’s economy through money spent on hotels, restaurants, flights and other discretionary spend. The figure tops the estimated £100m in value generated for London by The British Fashion Council’s London Fashion Week in September.

Reed Travel Exhibitions, Director, WTM, Simon Press (pictured) said: “World Travel Market plays a vital role for the global travel and tourism industry facilitating more than £2bn in industry deals.”

Celebrities attending WTM 2013 include Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor (Visit Tampa Bay); Viv Richards (Antigua) and Brian Lara and Actor Rudolph Walker from Eastenders (Trinidad and Tobago). Olympic decathlete Daley Thompson is also in attendance with Saint Lucia Tourist Board.

Former Marks & Spencer CEO and Chairman Stuart Rose, London Deputy Mayor for Business and Enterprise Kit Malthouse and founder of no-frills airline Go Fly and Vice Chair of London 2012 Olympic Organising Committee Barbara Cassani will be speaking at WTM.
