General Secretary of the Group Travel Organisers Association (GTOA), Michael Tebbutt, is the first winner of the Chris Barnes Sunshine Trophy.
Barnes was Groups, Tours and Marketing Manager for Legacy Hotels and Resorts, which operates 20 properties in UK and Southern Spain, until he passed away in April 2011.
Barnes was an active member of the GTOA and the Sunshine Trophy will be awarded annually to one of GTOA’s members who “spreads a little sunshine”.
John Barnett from Legacy Hotels and Resorts, said: “Chris is missed by his colleagues at Legacy Hotels and Resorts and his many contacts with the hotel and group tours industry. He loved organising tours and was always spreading a little sunshine with his enthusiasm and positivity about the various places of interest he was organising for guests to visit.
“Michael was voted to be the recipient of the trophy for the first time by members of the Central region for his funny anecdotes,” he added.
Tebbutt was presented with his trophy by the Chairman of the Central branch, Yvonne White at the National Committee Meeting of GTOA in London.
