Employee engagement specialists Wildgoose has launched a brand new wellness challenge to coincide with National Fitness Day on 26 September.

The #Wildgoose50millionchallenge has seen the company counting all steps taken on their events throughout September, in an attempt to reach 50 million, the equivalent of walking the circumference of the Earth. They have already reached their target.

The move comes as organisations are becoming more aware of the positive effects that employee wellness initiatives can have on productivity and morale.

Discussing the challenge, Jonny Edser, Founder and MD of Wildgoose, said: “Staff wellness is increasingly becoming a key consideration for companies, so we wanted to use the month of September as a way to highlight how our outdoor activities can form part of a balanced corporate wellness programme.

“Many companies will be organising team activities in the month of September, so why not do one that will get your teams walking 6,000 steps each in the fresh air and doing something healthy together.”

Recent studies into employee health and wellbeing at work showed that, on average, active staff take 27% less sick days. They also showed that under half of women and a third of men spend less than 30 minutes on their feet at work per day, and that an unhealthy workforce costs the UK tax payer over £60 billion per year.
