Vienna embodies all of the characteristics to be considered as a world leading sustainable meeting destination. In addition to excellent meeting facilities, convenient transport links and city infrastructure, reliable standards and an outstanding range of art and cultural offerings, it also scores with the world’s best quality of life.

Here are a few key factors which outline Vienna’s outstanding position as a leading meeting destination:

Highest quality of life

Vienna is the ‘most livable city’ in the world. Millions of enthusiastic visitors to Vienna know what has also been confirmed by the international consulting company, Mercer and British news magazine, The Economist. Both have repeatedly awarded Vienna the prime spot in their rankings of the world’s most livable cities.

Vienna has been listed number one by Mercer for ten years consecutively. The survey compares the political, social and economic climate, medical care, education and infrastructure conditions such as public transportation and utilities. The survey also evaluates entertainment and hospitality including restaurants, theaters, cinemas, sports facilities, the availability and high quality of consumer goods, as well as green spaces and environmental conditions.

City of short distances + Excellent public transport

In Vienna, you can easily organise a ‘walkable congress,’ with the majority of hotels, venues and landmarks for socials within easy walking distance. Vienna is known for its excellent public transport infrastructure, the Vienna Public Transport System (Wiener Linien) which currently covers 1,150 kilometers utilising a reliable subway, streetcar and bus network. Plans for an expansion include an additional subway line (U5), to ensure flawless public transportation for future generations. Short intervals enable easy access from A to B quickly and comfortably. Citybikes, car sharing, e-mopeds and e-scooters complete the offering. The City Airport Train (CAT) takes 16 minutes from the airport to the city center and meeting participants have their own ‘congress tickets.’

Oceans of ‘green’

50% of Vienna’s landscape is covered in grassland and water. Popular local recreation areas, including Prater Park, Vienna Woods (Wienerwald) and Lobau wetlands, are the perfect places for walks, excursions, hikes and bicycle tours. In total, Vienna has 2,000 green spaces – comprised of parkland, gardens, farmland, vineyards and meadows, a biosphere park and a national park: Vienna’s topography lends itself as a superb example of a ‘green city’ where environmental consideration is always high on the agenda.

Serious about social responsibility

In Vienna, diversity, inclusivity and social justice are not just buzzwords. Whether it’s affordable housing, rainbow family centers, promoting women’s rights, reintegration programmes or multilingual information services: Vienna is a city for everyone.
