London venue Wellcome Collection has put in place a temporary closure of its events space as it embarks on a £17.5m development.

Due to re-open in May 2014, the events space, masterminded by architects Wilkinson Eye, will draw on the destination’s theme of highlighting connections between medicine and art. Wellcome Collection says the delegate experience will be further enhanced as a result of the conference centre’s refreshed interior and will underline the venue’s place as a destination of choice for medical science organisations.

With the current expansion, Wellcome Collection aims to continue attracting business from notable clients, and will be able to accommodate 510 people across its seven spaces.

Existing spaces that will undergo a refurbishment include the Medicine Now gallery, which will gain a new staircase through which the gallery will be accessed.

Wellcome Collection says it has celebrated a successful first half of 2013 hosting over 650 corporate events.
