It’s been a mad week at CN, with more news coming through our letterbox than we knew what to do with.
With so much information flying about the place it was hysterically difficult to learn everything, so we’ve picked 10 that stood out the most.
1. London & Partners confirmed new head of associations
Becky Graveney departed London & Partners earlier in September after a mammoth 10-year stint. This week, at last, we found out who her replacement is.
2. Victoria Pendleton traded wheels for legs
We didn’t realise that gold medal-winning cyclist Victoria Pendleton has thrown her bike in the canal and taken up horse riding. But she has. This week we learned that she will speak alongside Sir Tony McCoy at the Sporting Mind Events.
3. Big name movers at NEC
If you’re in the know, then you’ll know that Sir David Arculus, former ExCeL London chair and Mike Rusbridge, former CEO of Reed Exhibitions, being appointed as non-executive directors of the NEC Group is big news…
4. Brexit is all fine and there’s nothing to worry about…
…If you’re in Bristol, that is. DoubleTree by Hilton announced that they have seen a 20% increase in conference bookings, dampening fears that Brexit will cause fire and mayhem.
5. Coventry City are going defensive
The Ricoh Arena, the home ground of Coventry City Football Club, plans to park the bus (sorry, it’s a football saying). In actual fact, we have learned parking at the ground has been outsourced and set for improvements…
6. Confex has a sexy new website
Confex springs into action next March, and to keep you interested the event has launched a new website. Use the hashtag #myconfex on Twitter and magical things will happen.
7. EVCOM honours Peter Franks
EVCOM is re-naming its Rising Star category in the Live Awards 2016 to The Peter Franks Rising Star Award. It recognises individuals from the live events industry who throughout their careers inspired the next generation of event professionals.
8. Davies Tanner will be hungover on Saturday morning
PR agency Davies Tanner has much to smile about after securing the contract to take over communications for ibtm events. Twitter went into melt down and the DT team are ecstatic.
9. Be prepared
Being late, fidgeting, playing Candy Crush – none of these things are the biggest concerns for hindering the success of a meeting. It was, actually, people being unprepared. But how many people said it wound them up the most?
10. DoubleTree wasted no time
In the same week that the Hinkley Point nuclear power station was given the go-ahead, which is one-third funded by China, DoubleTree by Hilton made a move for a Chinese-speaking intern to help visitors from the world’s most populated country enjoy the south west of England.
