Academic venue marketing consortium Venuemasters’ Annual Conference and AGM attracted over 100 delegates and, according to the association, the event was “sold out”.

Held 2-4 November 2011 in Edinburgh, the conference’s theme was ‘First impressions to last impression – how the customer experience can help grow your business’.

The event started with a welcome from the Venuemasters Chairman, Emma Boynton, and Geoff Ramm shared anecdotes about the importance of achieving excellence in customer service, while Adrian Webster gave a speech illustrating what impact TNTs (Tiny Noticeable Things) can have on businesses and customers. Michelle Mone, OBE, closed the conference with a speech on her journey to becoming one of the most successful businesswomen in the world.

The conference also had workshops and sessions on how social media can benefit academic venues, how regions can work together to generate business, and interactive sessions that allowed members to experience new approaches to providing customer service.

Ninety-six per cent of those surveyed said that the speakers were excellent with 97 per cent adding it was great for networking.

“We were delighted to see so many venues represented,” said Marketing Service Manager for Venuemasters, Natalie Hudson. “The feedback has been excellent.”
