UKEVENTS has welcomed the publication of the UK Government’s refreshed Industrial Strategy and accompanying Sector Plans, which place the creative industries at the heart of national growth ambitions.

Recognising the creative industries as one of eight priority sectors, the Government’s plans set out a clear commitment to driving innovation, exports, and skills development across the UK’s dynamic creative economy.

As part of the creative sector, events play an essential role in delivering these ambitions.

From international trade missions and exhibitions to domestic conferences and festivals, they are proven economic drivers that help UK businesses connect with global markets, attract inward investment, and showcase British creativity and expertise on the world stage.

In particular, UKEVENTS welcomes the focus on:

·       Leveraging events to boost exports – The Professional and Business Services Sector Plan recognises the impact of overseas missions and events in supporting SMEs to enter new markets.

·       Creating growth and innovation – The Creative Industries Sector Plan highlights the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing, both of which are facilitated by a vibrant calendar of business events.

·       Supporting skills and talent development – Events provide platforms for professional development and inspire the next generation to pursue careers in creative sectors.

Glenn Bowdin, chair of UKEVENTS, said: “We are pleased to see the Government’s Industrial Strategy recognise the pivotal role of the creative industries and professional services in driving growth and prosperity across the UK.”

He added: “As an enabler of collaboration, innovation, and trade, the events sector stands ready to help deliver the ambitions set out in these plans. We look forward to working with Government and industry partners to ensure events remain a central pillar of the UK’s industrial and social agenda.”

UKEVENTS will continue to engage with the Department for Business and Trade, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and other stakeholders to champion policies that harness the power of events to support growth, exports, and skills development.
