Herefordshire-based Tipi Adventure has launched a series of teambuilding packages designed for event organisers wanting to encourage teamwork, communication and bonding.
The company, which offers leisure breaks along the River Wye in Herefordshire, is running two-night packages throughout the autumn to target the corporate market with a tipi sleeping up to seven people. Discounts are offered when more than four tipis are booked.
“Whether they are working together in a canoe on the river or spending time in the Tipi there are many elements of the break that require groups to work together,” says Charlie Lawson, Founder and Owner of Tipi Adventure.
During the course of a stay groups can spend two days paddling along the river Wye and two nights in a tipi.
Among the skills groups will learn are:
1.Management skills – from the outset groups will have to work together as they paddle along the River Wye. The steering of the canoe is mainly from the rear, meaning that the person in the front needs to provide clear direction to ensure they paddle in the safest parts of the river
2.Team building – similarly paddling requires team work. The canoe will not get far without participants at both ends putting in an equal share of the work
3.Communication – At all points on the river the groups will need to communicate to ensure they are steering clear of low water, wildlife, other canoeists, fishermen and other obstacles along the way.
4.Bonding – At the tipi all these skills will be again tested as the group comes to grips with maintaining the tipi (fire building/cleaning, ensuring the smoke flaps are open to release smoke) and cooking for the evening meal.
All groups are provided with a full safety and equipment briefing session prior to taking to the river and entering their tipi. All equipment is provided for paddling, including maps – all groups need to bring is food, water for the canoe adventure.
Each tipi also comes equipped with beds, bedding, fire pit, logs, charcoal, cooking equipment, crockery, barbecue and outdoor seating. Guests should bring food, drink, clothing and towels.
Other activities can also be arranged for groups on request including cycling, archery and walking.
