Sodexo Scotland’s Exectuive Chef David Ward has picked up the Contract Caterer of the Year award at the Catering in Scotland (CIS) Awards.

Ward was awarded the title, which focuses on innovation, improved service and development of staff and products, for his work at the University of Stirling and beat off competition from Inspire Catering and Baxterstorey.

The GM of the University of Stirling Benjamin Bel and award-winning Chef Willie Pike were among those who nominated Ward for his efforts.

The improvements Ward had instigated since Sodexo won the contract in 2009 included visits to schools in Stirlingshire to give cookery classes and talks on healthy living, and a demonstration of French cooking for a school that was having a French-themed day.

At the awards ceremony in the Glasgow Hilton, the judges said: “In 2010, this chef’s client waxed lyrical after only a year in situ and now all major stakeholders in this contract have nothing but praise for our winner. External recognition is undeniable; one of the strongest the Board has ever seen.

“Nominated by three different people, it just shows how strongly peers respect this chef’s talent and the nominations provided evidence in abundance across the selection criteria.”

Sodexo in the UK and Ireland employs around 35,000 people, and delivers on-site service solutions to clients at over 2,300 locations in the corporate, healthcare, education, leisure and defence sectors.
