Sir Chris Bryant MP, minister of state for media, tourism, and creative industries, will open next week’s Global Policy Forum on behalf of The Business of Events.

The Labour MP for the Welsh constituency of Rhondda and Ogmore will deliver the opening address at the forum, taking place at IET London: Savoy Place on 1 April, in his capacity as a minister for the Department for Culture, Media, and Sport.

Sir Chris Bryant MP joins a lineup of politicians, policymakers, and senior industry figures attending The Business of Events’ Global Policy Forum, sponsored by RX Global.

The programme’s speakers and contributors include Shaun Davies MP, chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Events; Dame Caroline Dinenage DBE MP, chair of the culture, media, and sport select committee; and Lord Daniel Finkelstein OBE, columnist and politician, who will provide delegates with insights into the current political and economic landscape.

Mike Fletcher, director of news and content at The Business of Events, said:

“Sir Chris Bryant’s involvement in and endorsement of our Global Policy Forum is the icing on the cake for what promises to be an impactful and high-level programme, designed to move the needle on how the business events industry engages with government.”

News anchor, reporter, and broadcaster Trish Lynch will moderate the forum, which will feature Senthil Gopinath, chief executive of ICCA, discussing the opportunities that business events bring to the UK economy, and Neil Brownlee, newly elected chair of PCMA and head of business events at VisitScotland.

RX Global UK managing director Kerry Prince and Manchester Central CEO Lori Hoinkes will explore opportunities within the UK exhibition and trade show sector, while some of the UK’s leading business event destinations will contribute to a panel discussion, moderated by Paul Black of VisitBritain/Meet England, on the evolving role of the Convention Bureau.

Meanwhile, Mickael Benaim, head of research at SFA Connect, will highlight how destinations are adapting to shifting economic and political landscapes, before the closing keynote address is delivered by Dame Caroline Dinenage DBE MP, MP for Gosport and chair of the culture, media, and sport select committee.
