The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) has increased its position in the Top 100 Worldwide Entertainment Venues to 13th.

The survey is compiled by industry publication Pollstar, and is based on the attendance and volume of tickets sold by arenas for concerts and special events.

The SECC has raised its global ranking from 45th in 2010 to 13th in 2012, and major acts at the venue this year such as Snow Patrol, Guns n Roses, JLS and Strictly Come Dancing this year are thought to have contributed to the ranking.

The venue now ranks higher than venues such as The Staples Center in LA and Madison Square Gardens in New York.

“To have increased our position in these rankings is fantastic news and we owe this to the teamwork between our staff and the relationships we have with promoters and event organisers,” says Chief Executive of SECC, John Sharkey. “The SECC is currently transforming its entertainment complex with the addition of the Hydro, our new 12,000-seater arena due for completion next year.

“The Hydro will allow us to offer customers a wider choice and even higher level of world class entertainment with an expected one million visitors a year,” he adds.
