Meeting planners will be able to offer an even bigger taste of Scotland from the Scottish Event Campus (SEC) thanks to the opening of a whisky distillery on site on the banks of the River Clyde.
The Clydeside Distillery is situated at the Western end of the SEC campus, and has been bought back to life following a £10m investment by owners Morrison Glasgow Distillers Ltd. The site adds to the growing number of options for organisers looking to enhance their experience, from a traditional Scottish welcome, to guided tours, and group tastings.
“This is really good news for our clients and attendees,” says Kathleen Warden, SEC director of conference sales. “We already have great entertainment options in the SSE Hydro, and now with the Clydeside Distillery we can give visitors a real taste of Scottish hospitality as part of their experience.”
The Clydeside Distillery also represents another addition to the regeneration of the fashionable Finnieston area near to the campus. The distillery will be producing a single malt whisky, not characteristic for a lowland distillery which would normally be expected to produce a softer, drier less peaty whisky, possibly with wheat instead of barley. Lowland malts are usually triple-distilled.
