Magna Science Adventure Centre has been shortlisted for a White Rose Award, Yorkshire’s major tourism accolade.

The visitor attraction and corporate venue has made it through to the final in the Business Tourism category.

Housed in the former Templeborough steelworks, Magna has space that can cater for between 30 and 3,000 people.

There are nine different function spaces in a venue that has also played host to events including the Olympic torch relay, the RIBA Awards ceremony, BBC’s Children in Need, a real ale festival and the Gatecrasher dance events.

As well as being a corporate venue, it is a family attraction with more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth and fire.

Winners of the White Rose Awards will be announced at a glittering ceremony on 11 November at New Dock Hall near the Royal Armouries in Leeds.

Winners of each category in the White Rose Awards will also be entered into the national tourism awards next year.

General Manager John Silker said: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted. “What we have at Magna is unique in terms of the building. We can do so much that other venues can’t, particularly because of the space inside.”

Gary Verity, Chief Executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Competition this year was so fierce that every business making it to the shortlist should consider it a huge achievement in itself as they have had to contend with some real quality competition.”

More than a thousand people are expected to attend the awards. More information: www.whiteroseawards.com
