Principal Hayley Hotel’s (PH Hotels) Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow and the George Hotel in Edinburgh won big at the 10th annual Scottish Hotel Awards.
Both hotels scooped numerous accolades on the night with Grand Central picking up the most coveted award – Scottish Hotel of the Year.
The Grand Central was re-launched in January 2011 following a £20m refurbishment by PH Hotels. Located by Central Station, it offers 186 guest bedrooms in addition to its Champagne Central Bar, Tempus bar and restaurant and Deli Central.
Gary McLean Quin, Chairman of the judges, said: “There were many strong contenders for Scottish Hotel of the Year but the Grand Central stood out because of its all-round permance, passionate leadership, staff management and wise future development.”
The Grand Central Hotel was also named Events Hotel of the Year and Regional Wedding Hotel of the Year at the event. The hotel’s HR manager Claire Cuthberston was named People Manager of the Year while Lynsey Eckford and Barry Van Den Berg were presented with Rising Star Management awards; Murray Thomson also picked up a Management Excellence award.
The team at the George Hotel also had plenty to celebrate at the event: Hotel Manager Douglas Campbell was given a Rising Star award while Louise Doug, Executive Head of Housekeeping at the George was named Superstar Housekeeper of the Year.
Duncan Milne, Business Development Manager and Shaun Osbourne, Chief Engineer, were awarded with Excellence in Management medals, while the George’s revenue team was named Back Office of the Year. The George Hotel was also named Edinburgh and Lothian’s Regional Wedding Hotel of the Year.
