Travel management company Portman Travel has been listed in the Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250 study of the UK’s mid-market privately-owned companies, published 14 October 2012, for the second consecutive year.
Portman came in at number 143 in the study, which is compiled by research and networking events company, Fast Track, and focuses on top perming businesses that are continuously contributing to the economic recovery of the country by providing employment, creating wealth and proving their innovation and ambition.
“It is great to see privately owned companies, including many which Thornton has helped support, making such a positive contribution to the UK economy,” says David Maxwell, Partner at Grant Thornton, the title sponsor of the league table. “Impressive leadership is key to ensuring they prosper despite tough trading conditions, with many companies expanding through their international operations while making sure they retain and engage talented people in the UK.”
The league table, which ranks the UK’s 250 mid-market private companies that lead in their field, represents the next tier down from the Top Track 100 private companies with the biggest sales, provided they have either increased sales or operating profit in their last available accounts.
“Significant new client wins, combined with strengthening relationships with existing clients has resulted in considerable growth, which is encouraging when taking into account the still challenging economic conditions of the business travel industry,” says Portman Travel’s Chief Executive Michael Hare (pictured).
