Temporary structure supplier GL Events Owen Brown had a bumper weekend at Epsom races in celebration of the Diamond Jubilee.

Owen Brown, which has provided structures to the event for over 20 years, was onsite from early May fitting out a record 4,200sqm of luxury temporary structures to house the Tattenham, Princes Lawn and Winning Post hospitality suites.

The 233rd running of the Derby was the biggest-ever, not least because Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth attended the event on Saturday to begin her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. A sell-out crowd of more than 125,000 spectators attended, prompting the course to increase the amount of hospitality space, including the creation of a brand new area; Jubilee Hill.

The popular Tattenham Straight hospitality marquee had an increased capacity to cater for over 1,000 guests per day, and featured a covered integral decked viewing balcony to offer views of the racing.

All the structures were provided from Owen Brown’s Absolute and Ultimate ranges, which have been specially designed and are exclusive to the firm. The firm’s sister company GL events Snowdens also supplied in excess of 3,000sqm of soft sided structures for additional public bars, wet weather cover, picnic areas and police control facilities.

“We have supplied many structures to the Epsom Derby over the years, but, because of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations we were asked provide a record amount of space to reflect a bumper crowd this year,” said GL Events Owen Brown’sCommercial Director James Anderson. “It took an inordinate amount of preparation and work to get such a huge amount of space ready for the weekend but we are delighted everything went well for the race goers and Her Majesty.”
