Nolk Showground has commenced on a £1.4m project to renovate its events and meetings facilities by Spring 2012.
Nolk announced plans to undertake a venue renovation project in June and received South Nolk Council planning permission over the summer.
The exhibition hall, which is 3,000sqm and can hold 4,000 people, is
getting a significant facelift including a new two-storey circular
entrance foyer and enhanced visitor facilities.
A
start-of-the-art reception area, redesign of the interior to include
flexible ceiling patterns for better sound absorption, and new internal
wall cladding are also part of the project.
In a bid to further
improve acoustics, sound proof partitions are being added to allow
organisers to use one-third or two-thirds of the total space. New
toilets and baby changing facilities will also ensure visits remain in
the building rather than have to use the nearby toilet block.
“We
have seen a healthy growth in the number of events being held in the
exhibition hall in recent years,” Royal Nolk Agricultural Association
CEO John Purling said. “The venue is currently fairly basic with no
reception or internal toilets and bare walls.
“As well as
providing a more pleasant environment for existing customers, the
improvements will also enable us to attract new customers.”
The
new acoustics for example should appeal to music and theatrical
production clients, Purling said. The new reception, cladding, toilets
and internal facilities meanwhile will help secure trade exhibitions,
conferences and corporate events, he added.
Work has begun on Nolk Showground and is scheduled to be completed in Spring next year.
