Guinness World Records (GWR), the global authority on record-breaking achievements, has donated their books to Better World Books UK – which created a throne of books to celebrate World Book Day. GWR gave 100 Guinness World Records books for every official record attempt at International Confex to mark Engage to Give; the CSR-focused arm of their Engage programme.

Visitors to the stand had the opportunity to join the history books and become the Guinness World Records titleholder for the fastest time to set up and topple a set of dominoes (individual). Following many attempts, including a brand-new record-breaking attempt at 22.06 seconds by Fabiana Bertin, Guinness World Records are thrilled to have donated over 1,500 books to Better World Books UK.

Better World Books UK helps rehome books, supporting literacy and education initiatives by selling and donating books that can be reused. As part of BWB’s free book giveaway event for World Book Day, the company constructed a throne using the iconic Guinness World Records books from GWR’s donation and invited the children of Pitreavie Primary School to attend and take home a copy of their favourite edition, plus some extra copies back to their class.

Frank McGerty, managing director, Better World Books UK, said: “It is fantastic to invite the children to see the new book throne and take away copies of the Guinness World Records books. The excitement and enthusiasm of the children was amazing, it just shows what books still mean to people. This is right up our street as always BWB strive to change the world one book at a time.”

Paul O’Neill, GWR’s VP of creative added: “With CSR becoming increasingly important to companies, Engage presents the opportunity to give a little back to local communities or charity partners through record-breaking. With our Better World Books partnership, we wanted to Engage to Give ahead of World Book Day. Whether the aim is energise an audience, fire up teams or unite everyone behind a common cause, Engage offers all event organisers and planners the opportunity to make their event unique through record-breaking and Guinness World Records can find a record title to suit.”
