MEvents Global’s Melissa Edwards has won the inaugural DMC Network and Ovation Talent Search, held at 1 Oak in the Mirage Hotel – Las Vegas, on the final night of IMEX America.
Edwards’ rendition of Journey’s Don’t Stop Believing rocked the audience of 600 travel industry professionals and garnered her the most ‘Text’ votes to win the coveted prize of a trip to any Mandarin Oriental hotel in the world.
The night was co-hosted by DMC Network MD Dan Tavrytzky and Ovation MD Patrick Delaney. They bantered, entertained and engaged with selected contestants and the events judges – Mary MacGregor from BI Worldwide, David Peckinpaugh from Maritz Travel Company, and Christie Hicks from Starwood Hotels & Resorts.
In the spirit of American Idol and The Voice television shows, the judges provided contestants with permance feedback, praise, and comedic encouragement.
Permers were selected from submitted video auditions leading up to the event. The raucous crowd was “wowed” by all of the entertainers that included: Mike Lyons from Reed Exhibitions (That’s Life – Frank Sinatra); Mr. Holland from the Netherlands Board of Tourism (Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke); Lenny Talarico from MGM Resorts Events (On A Wonderful Day Like Today – Anthony Newley/Leslie Bricusse); Padraic Gilligan from Ovation Global DMC (American Pie – Don McLean); Melissa Edwards from MEvents Global (Don’t Stop Believing – Journey); and Alan Waxler from AWG Destination Services, a DMC Network Company (I’ve Got The World On A String – Frank Sinatra).
