The official convention bureau for Cambridge and the surrounding area, Meet Cambridge, has completed its “most successful year” since being established in 1998.

Meet Cambridge has confirmed handling 3,590 enquiries for events during its financial year ending 30 June 2023, with an estimated value of £25.2m.

Enquiries are circulated to its member portfolio of more than 50 venues which includes colleges, hotels, museums and other properties.

Almost half the enquiries originated from the academic sector and 32% from the corporate sector, with 77% coming from organisations based within 30 miles of the city.

Judith Sloane, head of Meet Cambridge, said: “It is very positive news to be recording our busiest year to date as we celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2023.

“After some very challenging years for the business events sector during the pandemic, it is so heartening to see that our clients are back – and with renewed enthusiasm for in-person gatherings – whether they be conferences, day meetings or dinners and celebrations. It’s wonderful to see the local economy benefitting from these events and to see the city brimming with business visitors.

“We also know from talking to event organisers that confidence is returning in terms of association events, organisations are starting to plan ahead again, and we have several new enquiries for larger international conferences that will come to Cambridge within the next two to three years.”
