Last Friday, convention complex Manchester Central welcomed Her Majesty The Queen as she attended an Urban Garden Party at the venue as part of her Diamond Jubilee visit to Manchester. The Queen joined 1,000 community champions and also officially opened the recently redeveloped venue while she was there.
The Central Hall was transformed into an Urban Garden Party for the day. The 1,000 community champions, dubbed the Manchester Diamonds, were recognised for their dedication to supporting their local communities.
The Queen and guests were entertained by permances from local school and community groups.
Manchester Central has recently completed a £30m redevelopment programme, partly funded by the European Regional Development Fund, which has seen the venue transformed with 21,000sqm of conferencing, meeting, event and exhibition space.
The Queen unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the redevelopment and Angie Robinson, CEO of Manchester Central, said: “We are absolutely delighted that we have played a part in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and have had the opportunity to host an Urban Garden Party for The Queen.
“It will certainly be remembered as a very proud day in the history of Manchester Central.”
