The Meetings Industry Association (MIA) has announced its new Board and Council, with a new Chairman and Vice-Chairman at its AGM.
Gary Payne takes over as Chairman and Andrew Mosley as Vice-Chairman. Both have served on the MIA council previously (Payne as Vice-Chairman for the past two years).
In their professional roles, Payne is Director at One Great George Street and Mosley is General Manager of The Grand Brighton.
“First and foremost I will seek to continue and enhance the excellent work already started by the MIA’s previous chairman, Peter Darnell,” said Payne. “We will work together with Board and Council members and the MIA team, to enhance the offering to members and increase the reputation of the meetings industry.”
Payne also identified a key plank of the new strategy as being the long term strategy of the sssociation. This, he said, would include conducting an assessment of the potential of adding sales and marketing benefits to MIA membership.
“Of course in the short term, we will continue the focus on enhancing the reach, reputation and, therefore, relevance of AIM, particularly in relation to buyers,” he added.
Mosely said he was looking forward to working closely with Payne and others at the MIA.
“We have ambitious plans,” he said. “Together we have a broad understanding of the challenges faced by venues and will work to ensure MIA membership continues to be a prund benefit, developing services that meet the needs of the modern venue.”
Jane Longhurst, MIA Chief Executive, said her team at Kelmarsh had been strengthened by recent new appointments. “The enthusiastic new MIA Board couldn’t have a better partnership at its helm than Gary and Andrew, they’re experienced, influential and tenacious; I call them the ‘Dynamic Duo’.”
