Farnborough’s Grade I listed flight-testing wind tunnel warehouses, located beside TAG Farnborough Airport, are to open as a corporate event space for the first time. The tunnels, which are part of Artliner’s Wind Tunnel Project, are suited to events for up to 350 guests.

Opened in April 1935, the spaces include the largest wind tunnel in Great Britain. The venue will be fitted with vintage military furniture, alongside the permanent 30ft mahogany wood blade used at the beginning of British aviation, which creates an unusual focal point within the space.

The event spaces are to be exclusively catered by The London Kitchen, which will offer a range of packages for events in this unique setting, from canapé and manapé menus to bowl food and fully seated dinners.

“Farnborough’s Wind Tunnel Project is an exciting new idea,” says MD of The London Kitchen, Damian Clarkson. “The London Kitchen can’t wait to get involved with this extraordinarily unique event space.”

Since its establishment in 2011, Artliner has organised art exhibitions at Dubai International Airshow, European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition in Geneva as well as a retrospective of Damien Hirst during the London Olympics at TAG Farnborough Airport.

The Wind Tunnel Project will launch in 2014, bringing attention to the significant aviation heritage contained within the buildings. Housing a mix of international contemporary artists, the buildings and intentionally placed artistic content will combine to create a physical experience that inspires people of all age groups, from all walks of life.

The project will run for six weeks from 9 June 2014 and will reopen in new forms biannually, to coincide with Farnborough International Airshow. The Wind Tunnel Project has been designed to leave behind a legacy of positive social impact in the form of broad economic benefit, community engagement and investment in important British heritage.
