As voters go to the polls at venues all over Britain today, 3 May, to cast their ballots in local elections, there is a big night of business for major venues and those providing technical services to them. Local elections are being held at 181councils, as well as 10 mayoral referendums and the election in London.
Cheshire-based visitor management and health and safety solutions company, SG World, will be managing event attendance at the vote count at Manchester Central following Manchester City Council’s local elections.
SG World will bring its ElectIT Event Management software to log and track attendance at the count, identifying on-site personnel to ensure a professional and secure election process.
With 370,000 Mancunians eligible to vote, the event has a complex agenda demanding a system that can manage event entry and egress over an extended and busy 12-hour period.
Adam Casey, Head of Operations for SG World IT, said: “We have taken away any worries over getting people in the door in a secure and speedy manner, leaving the council to concentrate on the important task of making sure the votes are counted. We have cut down on admin time, printing costs, and council man hours”.
In contrast to previous years when visitor registration was done on paper, technology uses colour coded wristbands and ID passes with scannable barcodes for each attendee, allowing one registration per second.
Angie Robinson, CEO of Manchester Central Convention Complex, tells CN: “At Manchester Central we are very proud of our role in the local community, and so we are excited to be part of such an important day for Manchester. We are geared-up to do everything that we can to help facilitate the task of counting the votes and to ensure that this is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible.”
In Hull, Janice Wincott, General Manager Hull City Venues (Arena, City Hall, New Theatre), tells CN: “We are delighted to host the local election counts at Hull City Hall this evening. This event contributes to showcasing the diverse range of events that the prestigious City Hall is able to host along with live music concerts, dinner dances, exhibitions, conferences and major sports events – including the Winmau World Darts Masters and boxing.”
