Leicester Business Festival 2016 was opened this week by chairman of Burberry, Sir John Peace.

The Festival includes a busy fortnight of events dedicated to promoting businesses in Leicester and Leicestershire.

One early showcase was ‘From Earth to Space and Beyond’, a sell-out event for 120 delegates, and a session outlining the importance of business to the local community by Leicester City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby.

Other early sessions included ‘Making Social Media Work For Your Business’ and ‘Connected Autonomous Vehicles And Intelligent Mobility’.

BBC Radio Leicester also got involved with a programme about the Leicestershire economy, which Festival organisers claim is the fastest growing in the country. Taking part were Jennifer Thomas, development manager at the Federation of Small Businesses; Chris Hobson, director of quality and external affairs at East Midlands Chamber; Scott Charlish, divisional director of Brewin Dolphin; and LBF board member Alister de Ternant.

Said Thomas: “What better way to celebrate and promote the diversity of Leicestershire as a business hub than to throw our weight behind this festival?”

Hobson added: “The Leicester Business Festival is a form of brand reinforcement. It sends out the message that ‘we are here, we are Leicester and we’re open for business’. Leicester is on the map and Leicester Business Festival will help keep it there.”

The 2016 Leicester Business Festival features 118 events and is expected to see 12,500 people attend by the time it concludes on 4 November. Tickets are still available for some events.
