Leeds has announced it will host the 5th UK CCUS and Hydrogen Decarbonisation Summit, following the success of last year’s event.

Taking place from 6-8 February 2024 at the Royal Armouries, the summit will welcome 750 delegates and more than 60 exhibitors.

These will include government officials, regulators, academia and service companies, which will see people travel from North America, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Germany and Norway.

The conference will assess and review the opportunities within the UK energy sector and its aim will be to consider how hydrogen can be used to help the UK develop its own green energy source as well as how carbon capture can reduce emissions.

Sector strengths

In March this year, Leeds celebrated being chosen as the host city for the summit, as the conference took place outside of Birmingham for the first time in its three year history. This reflects the city’s growing commitment to sustainability.

There are a number of large sustainability projects taking place in Leeds right now. In addition to the city having the very first UK city climate commission, Leeds are also installing a flagship £47m reusable heat network as well as investing over £100m into upgrading social housing, schools and community buildings with energy efficient measures.

Claire Heap, head of Conference Leeds, commented: “We are so proud to have been chosen to host the UK CCUS and Hydrogen Decarbonisation Summit for the second year in a row. It is a testament to our city’s strong commitment to sustainability, but also to our hard work in delivering a successful event last year.

“A sustainable city and green conferencing is a huge passion of ours as we move towards the city and country’s net zero goals, and we look forward to hearing the interesting insights from this conference.”
