ConferenceLeeds is celebrating Leeds being selected as the Northern pilot destination for a new range of workshops from the national charity U3A (University of the Third Age). The initial event will takes place 12-13 February 2018 at the Met Hotel.

This is the first of a new programme of training advice and networking opportunities run by the U3A national body – the Third Age Trust – who look after and support the movement’s 1,018 U3As.

U3A is a UK-wide movement, which brings together people in their third age to continue their learning and creative interests.

The two-day Leeds event will see over 200 members visit the city for a range of workshops led by industry experts covering a number of topics which include GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) and insurance. The format will be a mix of plenary and breakout sessions, with time for networking and discussion.

The workshops will be held in two locations; the first pilot will take place in Leeds, with the Southern Pilot taking place in Surrey in April.

If the pilots are successful, the programme will be taken to further venues across the country.

ConferenceLeeds organised site visits for the event organisers and liaised with the venues on U3A’s behalf.

The Met is a grade two listed building set in the heart of Leeds. Adam Walton, one of the organisers from The Third Age Trust, commented: “We are really looking forward to piloting our new set of workshops, and what’s more exciting is that the Northern pilot, and the very first pilot, will be held in Leeds which was an obvious choice for us because of its brilliant accessibility… ConferenceLeeds’ knowledge and experience helped make the process easy, and they found a great venue for us with The Met.”

Jennifer Young, head of ConferenceLeeds, added: “We are delighted that the national charity U3A is visiting the city and we hope to work with them on other projects in the future.”
