Marketing consortium, The Travel Network Group, is to take its 2013 Conference to Slovenia’s Lake Bled.
The conference will run 17-19 May 2013 in the Julian Alpine resort.
Gary Lewis, The Travel Network Group Group MD, said: “We wanted a conference destination with a difference for our next overseas event, a destination that was less mass-market and one that our members may not have visited before. We believe that Lake Bled will be a very popular choice not only because of its sheer beauty but because of its two-hour flight time from the UK, its proximity to the airports in Ljubljana and Trieste, and its fine weather during the Spring months.”
The Slovenian Tourist Board had helped negotiate some special delegate rates, held at the same levels as the group’s last conference which took place in September 2011 at Spain’s Port Aventura.
Tine Murn, Slovenian Tourist Board UK, Office at The Embassy of Slovenia, London, added: “We are all extremely excited and happy to be selected as the destination for The Travel Network Group’s 2013 conference, and we will do everything we can to secure an outstanding event next year.”
The conference will include partner delegates from Worldchoice, Travel Trust Association, Independent Travel Experts and other travel associations. The 800-member consortium is the largest independent association of tourist agents in Europe.
Alexis Barrasso from Worldchoice tells CN that the Bled event is set to draw 350 delegates, up from the 250 who attended the Port Aventura conference. “Our Travel Network Group membership is diverse and ranges from family-run businesses to huge internet tour operators. The 2013 conference was put out to tender and we looked at Spain, Cyprus, Portugal, Ireland and Slovenia. Lake Bled is truly stunning and we’re very excited about it,” he added.
Last year, Slovenian tourist destinations recorded a three per cent increase in arrivals from Britain.
