A £12.1m extension project at Jurys Inn Islington on Pentonville Road has been announced by Jurys Inn Group. The project will see the property become the 32-strong hotel group’s flagship hotel.
The 51-week project, due for completion in September 2014, will comprise of an extension and a complete refurbishment of the company’s first London hotel, which opened in 1998.
Construction will commence this month and will involve increasing the hotel’s bedroom offer to 372. Twenty-two extra jobs will be created in areas such as food and beverage, housekeeping, reception and management.
There will be a conference centre, located on the ground floor, offering seven meeting rooms which will continue to offer the AIM accredited Jurys Meetings Product. The largest room will cater for up to 90 delegates. A gym will also be included, as well as a complete remodelling of the lobby, restaurant and bar area. A Costa coffee bar will also be installed.
“We are delighted to be breaking ground on this project,” says CEO of Jurys Inn, John Brennan. “Jurys Inn Islington will showcase a new direction for the group in terms of design and style,” he adds.
Contractors McAleer and Rushe will be working on the project.
The Islington extension comes as part of a wider refurbishment programme across the Jurys Inn group with over 1,005 bedrooms and public areas having already received a makeover in 2012. The hotel group has earmarked a total spend of £25m for projects up to the end of 2014, as part of an on-going refurbishment programme.
