London-based global experiential agency Jack Morton will be creating the Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve firework display.
The display will herald the opening of a momentous year for the city, when it celebrates both the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee.
The BBC will broadcast the event across the globe to a live audience of millions.
The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: “As we begin one of the most extraordinary and exciting years in our great city’s history, the sky will light up with a dazzling display of pyrotechnic magic. 2012 will open, not with a timid whimper, but a colourful bang, a noisy clarion call to herald one amazing year.”
The Mayor added: “From the magic of the Games, to the Diamond Jubilee, to the London 2012 Festival and our own outdoor arts festival, there will be world-class events in every corner of the capital, to create a summer like no other.”
This is the eighth consecutive year that the award winning agency has produced the event.
BBC Radio 1 DJ Nihal is once again working in collaboration with the Jack Morton team on the soundtrack that will accompany the display. He will also be mixing music live for the crowds along the river in the build up to midnight.
“Each year our goal is to exceed expectations. This year, when all eyes will be on London, this is more important than ever. We are honoured to have the opportunity to help showcase London to the world at the beginning of one of the most significant years in the capital’s history,” said Jim Donald, Executive Producer, Jack Morton Worldwide.
Jack Morton Worldwide works in conjunction with multiple agencies across the capital to ensure the event is planned and delivered in a safe way. These include: Greater London Authority, Metropolitan Police, Westminster City and Lambeth Borough Councils, Transport for London, The Port of London Authority and London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade.
