The cream of the international association
meetings sector have been honoured at a prestigious ceremony in Switzerland.
The inaugural International and
European Associations Awards took place during the dinner at
the International and European Associations Congress, at the
Swiss Tech Convention Center in Lausanne on 6 May.
Damian Hutt, executive director of
organiser Associations Network, said: “The awards focus on the talent that
associations consist of, both executive and voluntary. At Associations Network
we believe that associations have the ability to lead and develop all sectors
and industries and the passion and dedication that associations and their
employees put into their work is clear. This should be recognised widely.”
The awards categories and winners were:
Chief Executive of
the Year
Winner: Cary Adams, Union for
International Cancer Control
Judges said: “With a small team, Cary was
able to position his association as a global thought leader and implemented
World Cancer Day”.
Young Leader of the
Year
Recognising executives in the first 10
years of their career within an association and making a significant
contribution to the development and growth of their business area within their
association.
Winner: Caroline Staffell, International
Federation of University Woman
Judges said: “Caroline developed a
strategic plan, implemented projects, new training offerings and membership
services resulting in 100% member retention”.
Effective Voice
Award
Recognising the advancement of an issue
and/or sector representation and rewards the positive influence and celebrates
the association’s work towards improving a profession or sector.
Winner: IFFO – The Marine Ingredients
Organisation
Judges said: “A campaign that showed that
hard work and focus leads to success”.
Conference
Development
For content, design, marketing,
sponsorship and delegate, sponsor and exhibitor experience, all vital for
success in conferences. Recognising the development of one or more areas
of these areas of a conference, taking into account: increased value for
stakeholders and/or the whole association’s membership, and the growth of the
conference in one area or all.
Winner: Federation of European Self
Storage Associations
Judges said: “Took a counter-intuitive
approach, raising prices, combined with improvements in the quality of speakers
and marketing activities”.
Best eLearning /
Online Education
Recognising interesting use of virtual
information, education, or product delivery, be this a webcast, e-learning
offering, virtual community or other digital service or product, of benefit to
members or the sector.
Winner: European Association for the Study
of the Liver
Judges said: “A visually compelling entry
that draws the learner into the subject using an innovative and unique
application”.
Best Association
Website
This award congratulates an Association
which has produced a new website in the last year.
Winner: CompTIA
Judges said: “The website stands out
because of its crystal clear design and excellent integration”.
Best Event
Webcasting
Recognising excellence in webcasting and
recording conferences and events to your membership and beyond.
Winner: American Association for the Study
of Liver Diseases
Judges said: “Used a flexible and
interactive approach to webcasting
that resulted in an excellent cutting edge
experience for the audience”.
Best Use of Event
Technology
Winner: Union Sociale pour l’Habitat
Judges said: “An app that has evolved over
time into an impressive conference tool”.
