Wyboston Lakes conference and leisure centre is to make its corporate golf day an annual event called the Wyboston Lakes Corporate Challenge Trophy.
Fifty golfers took part in the recent tournament at the 18-hole course, located between Cambridge and Milton Keynes.
The event was won by a team from Coca Cola, with the Football Association runners up. Prizes were also awarded for nearest the pin and for most balls in the nearby lakes.
Wyboston Lakes is currently undergoing an £3m redevelopment programme and MD Mark Jones (pictured, hatless, with winners) said: “Our golfing facilities are a key element in our determination to establish Wyboston Lakes as one of the country’s top destinations for business and leisure.”
The Wyboston Lakes Executive Centre later hosted a gala dinner and awards ceremony, with most of the competitors then staying overnight.
Another chance for industry golfers to practise their swings came at Hellidon Lakes Golf & Spa Hotel, Northamptonshire on 19 July.
The Event Industry Golf Team Challenge 2012 was sponsored by Towergate Coverex and organised by Mervyn Ramsey, of ’Sticky Wicket’ fame, and supported by ESSA (the Event Supplier and Services Association).
This event attracted 18 teams and 72 golfers from organisers, venues and suppliers, including Brand Events, EC&O Venues, F2F Events, Melville, Perton Signs, Ricoh Arena and The NEC.
Phil Smith of exhibit 3 sixty won the individual award with 40 points. His company also won the overall team challenge.
EC&O Venues customer services manager Siân Richards said: “The Golf Day is a good opportunity to meet with the contractors that work in our venues regularly on a more relaxed basis than is possible during events.
The event raised £4,000 for two charities, Hospitality Action (the trade charity offering a crucial lifeline to people from the hospitality industry) and Events for Namuwongo (supporting Namuwongo, a slum community on the edge of Kampala in Uganda).
ESSA Chair and Aztec Event Services MD, John Robson said: “We based the event on the highly successful BECA Golf Days, but expanded it to bring together organisers, venues and service suppliers. The event was a sell-out and it was fantastic to see so many new faces. Next year we plan to work even closer with our sister associations the AEO and AEV and our industry promotional body FaceTime to build on this success.”
