This year’s IBTM Global Industry Research report presented at CIBTM 2012 in Beijing in September revealed that, although destinations being used outside China by Chinese meeting planners are mainly in Asia, there are significant numbers of meetings going to Europe, the US and Australia, a trend that is likely to increase in future.
Seventy-two per cent of buyers of Chinese outbound business said they were looking at new destinations in the next 12 months, according to the organisers of the IBTM survey, Reed Travel Exhibitions.
Following on from last year’s inaugural China Meetings Summit at EIBTM in Barcelona, the region’s meetings industry experts will again discuss the growth and movement of inbound and outbound business plus the concerns and opportunities that face the China market.
When considering international buyers’ expressed top 10 countries of choice for holding events in Asia, China was most popular with 62 per cent of all participants selecting it as the most used destination. Hong Kong followed with 45.5 per cent and 35.9 per cent of respondents selected Thailand.
What promises to be a highly interactive session will incorporate the findings from the research presented by Sally Greenhill, MD The Right Solution. Other speakers will include Ping Liu, CEO of Star Professionals; Shen Changhui, Executive President of China Science Resources at Technology Trading Corporation; Patrick Chen, Shanghai Tourism Bureau; and Jenny Salsbury, Senior Director at the China National Convention Centre.
Craig Moyes, Reed Travel Exhibitions Portfolio Director, for the IBTM Global Events Group said: “This year [at CIBTM] we welcomed the most Chinese Hosted Buyers seen at the show as a direct result of CIBTM roadshows to second and third tier cities which are increasingly recognising the meetings profession”.
The China Meetings Summit will take place on Tuesday 27 November at 15.30 at EIBTM in Barcelona.
