‘Cutting the ice’ at the official unveiling were a talented team of British Championship medallists and members of the International Development Squad – including Nina Povey, Molly Valencia and gifted nine year old Genevieve Sommerville – who entertained guests with an impressive display on on-ice acrobatics. Set among the Christmas lights and iconic backdrop of Canary Wharf’s skyscrapers, the skaters twisted and turned their way around the rink, which features London’s first ‘skate path’ winding around Ron Arad’s iconic Big Blue sculpture.

Inspired by the permance, many of the guests took to the rink eager to glide into the festive spirit. Meanwhile others looked on from the rinkside Boisdale on Ice bar and terrace enjoying champagne, mulled wine, hot toddy.

Returning for the eighth year in a row, Ice Rink, Canary Wharf will be buzzing with activity throughout the festive season until 13 January 2013. Highlight events include Sinatra on Ice every Tuesday, a variety of fun-filled family days and exciting themed evenings including Date Night, aBollywood Night, a Dancing Queen Abba Night and Starlight’s 12 Days of Christmas Run.
