The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) UK and Ireland Chapter’s Winter Debate will take place 10-11 February 2014 at Northern Rock Foundation Hall, Sage Gateshead in Newcastle.

The event, entitled ’The Business of Getting Business’ will offer tips for destinations, venues and hotels on compliance and insight into how rules on a global level are interpreted at a local level; advice on how associations can attract younger generations to their event; and how businesses can meet client expectations in the current climate.

Professor Paul Redmond from the University of Liverpool, a leading expert on generation theory and the graduate labour market, will be the opening speaker for the event.

“The ICCA UK and Ireland Winter Debate is a great networking opportunity and we are excited about the content programme on offer,” says the Chapter’s Chair, Kerrin MacPhie (pictured). “Understanding compliance and how different rules apply globally is a challenge for many in the meetings industry as is how to attract new generations to events in this day and age, so we hope to give delegates practical advice and tips that will help them to maximise their business opportunities.”

The debate will also hear from ambassadors that have successfully won business, on why they bid, what the gains are and the legacy that hosting an international conference can leave.

The event is open for anyone in the industry interested in and affected by compliance, ambassador programmes and bidding for events looking for practical, best practice tips from industry colleagues. The event is open to members of fellow industry associations.

“The publication of the All Party Parliamentary Group UK Events Industry Inquiry report has highlighted the fact that we should speak with one voice about our industry and I hope those attending this debate will experience first hand the passion that ICCA UK and Ireland events create,” adds MacPhie.
