UK charity Hospitality Action’s annual initiative, Walk for Wellbeing, is expanding into three additional UK cities for its fifth and biggest year yet.
Originally launched in partnership with mum, Caterer.com, Lifetime Training, and Peoplebank, the event will now include Oxford, Cardiff, and Liverpool, bringing the total number of host cities to eight.
Since launching in London in 2020, Walk for Wellbeing has become a staple in the hospitality calendar, uniting hundreds of companies and thousands of walkers nationwide to improve mental health and support colleagues.
Participants from the hospitality industry and beyond have been invited to join the event to promote mental health and wellbeing while raising funds for those facing challenges in the hospitality sector.
Eight 20km walks will take place in major UK cities on 13 October, including London, Oxford, Bath/Bristol, Cardiff, Birmingham, Liverpool, Manchester, and Glasgow. Those unable to join on that date can participate in ‘Walk It Your Way’ at any location between 10 October and 27 October.
Hospitality Action has seen record-high calls to their helplines and grant applications in 2024, with most citing debt as the primary trigger of anxiety and mental health issues.
Craig Prentice, founder of Walk for Wellbeing, emphasised the need for hospitality businesses to prioritise the mental health of their employees. “Walk for Wellbeing is a grassroots movement promoting self-care and good employment practices, rapidly gaining national prominence. It connects, educates, unites, and empowers our community.”
