Euston-based conference and meetings venue, Friends House, claims it now uses 100 per cent renewable electricity throughout its 23 meeting spaces.
The home of the Quakers in Britain, which Friends House claims is the largest conference space in Euston and Kings Cross, will now be powered by a mix of 57 per cent wind, 30 per cent solar, seven per cent hydro and six per cent Biogen energy.
“Friends House has teamed up with 30 Quaker meeting houses to collectively buy electricity from Good Energy,” says Head of Hospitality at the venue Paul Grey.
“Sustainability has become an increasingly important topic for event organisers and the meetings and events industry; this is a significant step towards our goals and commitment to green credentials,” he adds. “We hope that this strong commitment to renewable energy will encourage others to make the switch, too.”
Sustainability is central to the refurbishment of Friends House’s flagship meeting space, the Large Meeting Hall, which will include wall insulation and energy efficient lighting and heat. In October, Friends House disinvested from companies engaged in extracting fossil fuels and the venue’s onsite restaurant uses fairly-traded, local, organic, free range and sustainable products including herbs from their garden.
