Former UK Member of Parliament John Greenway awarded JMIC tribute

John Greenway, former UK Member of Parliament, has been awarded the 2013 JMIC Profile and Power Award from the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC).
 
The award was made in recognition of Greenway’s ongoing work over the past 15 years in advising and informing the meetings industry on the opportunities and challenges in communicating industry values to government representatives.
 
“While we have in the past acknowledged many industry leaders with this award for their initiatives in communications and advocacy, we realise at the same time that our success relies to an equal or even greater extent on the support and participation of those inside the political system who can advise the industry on how governments operate and what kinds of messages and approaches are most likely to resonate with politicians,” says JMIC President Philippe Fournier. “This year’s award recipient is a perfect example of such an individual, having been an industry advisor and supporter for more than 15 years, providing both insights and advice while also directly participating in industry events.
 
“While Greenway has now retired from public life, he has continued to participate in activities associated with the industry/political intece and provide valued insights into the political process.”
 
The JMIC Power and Profile Award was established by the council as a way of recognising individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions to advancing the awareness and influence of the meetings industry in their respective communities. The winner is selected each year based on criteria which evaluate the efforts of an individual or organisation in increasing industry profile and bringing about structural or policy changes that reflect that better appreciation.
 
JMIC is an organisation that represents the combined interests of its 15 international meetings industry association members. It has provided a forum for information exchange among industry groups for over 50 years and in recent years has become engaged in the process of articulating and delivering industry messages, as well as encouraging improved mechanisms for documenting the value of the industry.
