Former NEC Group employee Pav Shergill, who left her role as Communications Manager for the NEC Group to launch her own venue and events management company Monsoon Venue Group, has been awarded the Outstanding Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award at this year’s Institute of Asian Businesses Awards.
Monsoon Venue Group (MVG) specialises in the management and delivery of Asian events.
Since launching in June, MVG has secured an exclusive contract to work alongside the NEC Group’s catering arm Amadeus, to support the management of Asian events in Amadeus venues, including the ICC Birmingham and Stoneleigh Abbey in Kenilworth. The company has also signed a deal with the Town Hall and Symphony Hall to handle their Asian events in the same capacity.
“I am proud to have won such an award; it gives me great reassurance that giving up my corporate career to pursue my own business in such a niche industry worthwhile,” says Shergill. “There is definitely a growing demand for large capacity venues in Birmingham; the typical Asian wedding can have anything from 250 to 1,000 guests, so I saw the value in bringing corporate events into the mix.
“There has also been a shift in the market from using traditional purpose-built banqueting suites, to wanting to do something different, but I think a lot of people don’t realise that venues such as the ICC and Symphony Hall are an option. My role is to let people know about the venues I work with and help the venues manage the process, making sure the customer enjoys an insightful and seamless experience,” she adds.
The Institute of Asian Businesses award is MVG’s second accolade, having been selected as one of the three new uprising businesses at this year’s Asian English Business Awards.
