A new arts and music venue, MusicSlashArt, in Newcastle has opened to the public and to corporates and associations for events and conferences.
The 300-capacity venue claims to be the UK’s first ‘Concept to Concrete’ arts and music venue, where the ambience and decor of the venue will change and develop constantly as the space itself is an evolving art installation.
The venue is the first of its kind, acting as an artistic medium in its own right. Everything from the street level windows, which have been turned into a light instillation by the globally renowned Insa to the pool cues which have been created by The London Police, have been designed and created by artists.
Newcastle art collective Unit44 has commissioned a variety of practitioners to make their mark across the entire venue, including the likes of HUSH, Neils Shoe Meulman, SheOne, Seb Lester, Remi Rough, Mr Penfold and many more.
New installations will be added over time, resulting in a continually evolving arts and music venue.
MusicSlashArt launched with a permance from Irish producer Krystal Klear among a myriad of installations from artists across the globe.
The venue will feature a music line-up welcoming musicians, DJs and producers through its doors all year round.
One of the artists involved, Will Barras, says: “I’ve painted bars before… but nothing like this. Nothing this involved. The art is the space rather than simply picking out a wall”.
