The finalists for the Scottish Event Awards, held in association with EventScotland, have been announced with event students from the Edinburgh Napier University receiving four nominations.

The awards is the only annual scheme that rewards and celebrates all areas of the thriving events industry in Scotland. Now in its sixth year, The Scottish Event Awards attract entries from event organisers, promoters, in house-teams, venues and suppliers.

This year has seen an overall increase in entrants, with new events appearing across the board. Edinburgh Corn Exchange and Deadinburgh lead the way with six and five nominations each, respectively.

Shortlisted in the ‘Best Student Event’ category, the Edinburgh Napier Festival and event management students have been recognised after organising a series of live events as part of their course. They also raised £3,000 for charity.

They will now go head to head with other nominees, including groups from Glasgow Caledonian University and Robert Gordon University, to be named the best in the business at the Black Tie ceremony on 26 September at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow.

“The University prides itself on offering our festival and event management students ’real-life’ and ’hands-on’ experience which can prove vital in their future careers,” says Dr. Louise Todd, Lecturer in Festivals and Events at Edinburgh Napier University. “The students are hugely excited to be nominated in the Best Student Event category and to have their work recognised by some of Scotland’s top event professionals.”

This year’s judging panel was chaired by Jan Booth from Sunbaba and included Tina Benson from ‘Team Tactics’ and Clare Savory from Great Ormond Street Hospital.
