Q&A with 2022 mentees

At the event, Martin Fullard, editorial director, Conference News and FF15 mentor, asked the 2023 cohort what it means to be a FF15 mentee.

“To me, being selected for the programme is the opportunity to see and achieve more myself. Having worked in the industry for over 10 years, I have found myself stagnating. I am looking forward to feeding off the inspiration and energy of all the people involved in the programme (mentors and mentees alike) as well as working closely with my mentor, Linda Bekoe, to begin breaking through the barriers of my own making to achieve my success.” Tammy Nkiwane

“Being selected has already had a huge impact in my career. Just hearing about the commonalities of most applicants citing imposter syndrome as a main reason for applying has helped me to realise I’m not alone here. I have three main aspirations I hope to reach from the programme. I’m looking for guidance from those in the industry to help me develop my skills, I’m looking for guidance on how to navigate the work life balance and I’m looking for role models and connections to grow my network and be sounding boards for event planning.”  Stacy Lyden-Sauppe

“After a difficult couple of years, this programme has come along at the right time. The programme is a perfect opportunity for me to refocus and set new goals. Being from Northern Ireland , I’m really looking forward to growing my network with the other fabulous mentees and to learn from Fay and my own mentor Andrew Mosley. I’m really excited for what the next 12 months will bring.” – Sarah Weir

“To me it means opportunities, empowerment, saying yes, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, reflection and learning about myself, to take the next step in my career. It is an honour to be part of the programme, to be surrounded by an amazing group of cheerleaders and have the support and guidance on shaping my future. With the support of my mentor and the wider FF15 family, I hope to increase my confidence, overcome my nerves and speak in public.” – Jess Hebden

“Being selected for the programme has not only given me a sense of achievement but a sense of hope. I am truly passionate about the power of events, creating special memories and unforgettable experiences, but have just felt stagnant as I have lacked someone who I can bounce ideas off of, gain insight into industry trends and learn how to evolve my role from event management to event consultant. I know that with the experience and support of my mentor I will not only be able to level up in my event production but in my career.” – Alexa Martinez

“Being chosen to be a part of the Fast Forward 15 programme is a really exciting experience. There isn’t anything else like this within this industry that is really going to let you develop the tools to further your professional career. I can’t wait to get started on the mentoring sessions with Martin, decide on my goals and how I’m going to achieve that. Over this next year, I expect to be out of my comfort zone. I’m very excited for the Charity Event, and want to challenge myself with a different role within the team. Sponsorship? Finance? Let’s see what the future holds.” – Hayley Nicholson

“It’s no lie that I came to the party late after being in the industry for 24 years. During the pandemic, I redefined my position from project/event manager to agency owner and now every day is a learning day. My experience in the field is unparalleled but in business, I lack confidence and suffer hugely from imposter syndrome. I am confident though that with Dale Parmenter at my side, I can conquer all of my fears and apprehensions and level up to become the MD I need to be.” – Zoe Lucy

“It’s something I thought I’d never get accepted onto and that was my exact reason for applying. It is to change my mindset and ditch the imposter syndrome. I am elated to be mentored by someone so predominant in our industry and am so excited to see us all graduate next year with new found confidence and experience.” – Amy Woodthorpe
