Conference and exhibition centre, Excel London and the ICC London, will offer visitors free Wi-Fi across the venue from 1 October.
The venue says following extensive consultation with its customers it has invested significantly in upgrading its Wi-Fi infrastructure to Ruckus with a speed of 512kbps, to ensure it offers the latest technology available. Previously this service was limited to the boulevard.
“Over the last year we have been attracting some of the world’s leading events from exhibitions to major corporates and international congresses, particularly in the technology sector,” says Operations Director at Excel London, Brian Cole. “In fact in 2014, we will host more technology events than any other venue in Europe. We have therefore been working with these major technology events but also consulting with all our customers to find out the needs of their visitors, exhibitors and delegates with regards to their internet requirements.
“As a result we are now introducing a basic free Wi-Fi service across the public and event spaces. Unlike some other venues, once visitors register they will be able to get continuous free Wi-Fi for the duration of the event.”
Cole adds: “With the rapid growth of hybrid events and social media particularly Twitter and Facebook, our customers want to engage in real time and broadcast to a wider audience, as well as integrate it into their events. Social media has become a core part of business and an effective marketing channel for many and so this new service will now enable our customers to access this wherever they are in the venue to bring their event experience to life, network and share information and photos.”
Excel London has also invested £7m in its expansive IT network infrastructure for customers who purchase supported cable connections to offer an uninterrupted solution for higher technology requirements.
The issue of free Wi-Fi at exhibitions was recently discussed at Conference News’ Conference Question Time. For a full report on what was discussed read November’s issue of CN.
