Event Cycle has donated 571 pallets of leftover event materials to 30+ charitable organisations in Glasgow as part of the positive legacy left after COP26.
Founded by Carina Jandt (pictured right) and Chantal Kerr-Sheppard (pictured left), Event Cycle is a UK organisation that connects the events industry to the not-for-profit sector. The organisation aims to tackle the problem of single-use event materials.
Event Cycle was tasked by events agency, Identity and the Government to collect any reusable items left once COP26 was finished and find suitable destinations for them in the Glasgow area.
The donated items ranged from fabric, stationery and white goods to wood, scenic build, carpet and graphics.
Organisations that benefited included: social housing; men’s mental health; food and fuel poverty; hospice care; maritime history and gardening.
Chantal Kerr-Sheppard, director, Event Cycle, commented: “Through our volunteering, we have seen the demand for more than just volunteers and monetary donations. It’s here we’ve made the crucial connection and found a solution between what charities need and what events waste.
“Now is the time to build back better and consider our options for a more sustainable, socially responsible, future in the events industry.”
