Etherlive says it has seen a 16 per cent increase in demand for video conferencing year-on-year.
The technology supplier for the conference sector says this increase reflects changing consumer trends and corporate travellers’ on-going ‘trip avoidance’.
Director of Etherlive, Tom McInerney, says corporate requirements for one-on-one and group video conferences is being driven by two factors:
- The younger demographic of today’s delegates who are fully conversant with video communication, whether Skype or Face-time, means they are replicating this in their workplace
- Businesses are reducing non-necessary overseas and domestic travel due to the inclement financial climate
Etherlive’s growth reflects the global demand for business video conferencing, which according to global networking brand Cisco will grow six fold between 2011 and 2016.
“Delegates are in the driving seat of today’s events; their reliance on their smart phones for personal use is being mirrored in how they want to work,” says McInerney. “This is one of the reasons why video conferencing is coming to the fore, alongside the view that it increases when business travel is reigned in”
