Local convention bureau, Marketing Edinburgh, has won its bid to host the World Veterinary Poultry Association Congress 2017 (WVPAC 2017), which will attract 1,300 poultry veterinarians and poultry health scientists from around 70 countries.

The City of Edinburgh was announced as host at last night’s closing gala dinner for WVPAC 2013 in Nantes, France. Marketing Edinburgh’s Business Conference team played an integral role in supporting the Bid Organising Committee over the last three years to secure the event.

With an estimated economic value of £2.2m to Edinburgh, the week-long WVPAC 2017 conference will take place in September 2017.

Delegates will focus on new developments and research in poultry health, while networking and meeting with colleagues and commercial companies that supply avian health products.

Taking place every two years, Edinburgh will be the 20th city to host the World Veterinary Poultry Association’s congress. Previous host cities include Cancun, Beijing, Munich and Atlanta.

The Business Conference branch of Marketing Edinburgh has helped to attract a host of international conferences bringing 55,000 delegates and generating £85m in economic value to the city in 12 months since April last year, a £10m increase on 2011-12.

With 116 conferences already confirmed between 2013 and 2021, including The World Forum on Natural Capital in November 2013 and the International Congress on Cleft Lip/Palate and Related Cranicial Anomalies conference in 2021, Marketing Edinburgh’s Chief Executive John Donnelly, hopes that figure will increase by five per cent to £88m in 2013 and will continue to grow year-on-year.
