EasyJet waves goodbye to check-in desks

Low-cost airline easyJet is axing its check-in desks this week.
 
The company will only operate desks for passengers to drop off their luggage on the way to security.
 
The company says up to 88 per cent of its passengers now check-in online and print off their boarding passes at home, enabling them to head straight to security, particularly those carrying hand luggage.
 
However, passengers who forget to check-in online, or are unable to, will be able to do so at any of easyJet’s bag drop desks.
 
An easyJet spokesperson said: “We will be telling people on all our flights we have moved to online check-in but we don’t penalise people who don’t turn up with printed boarding passes.”
 
EasyJet will also this week start trials of mobile boarding passes on smartphones.
