Every Earth Day brings a flurry of eco-friendly pledges and green-tinted campaigns. But while many efforts are confined to a single day many agencies are embedding sustainability deep into their operations and ethos. From carbon tracking tools to waste-free events, these trailblazers are redefining what it means to go green. Conference News spoke to those leading the charge to find out how they’re turning bold environmental ambitions into everyday action.
Beyond April 22, these agencies are proving that sustainability isn’t just a seasonal buzzword, it’s a business imperative.
Be in Your Element:
Be in Your Element is a wellness-focused events agency that creates nature-connected experiences to help people emotionally reconnect with the Earth. The agency follows best practices from frameworks like B Corp, works with sustainability consultants and prioritises low-impact choices. Founder Lucy Eden says: “We’re creating the space for people to fall back in love with the Earth. Because when people connect emotionally and spiritually to the natural world, caring for it becomes second nature.”
Lucy says that the best way for other agencies to step up their sustainability practices is with connection. She says: “Spend real time in nature. Notice what stirs you, what grounds you. From there, make one meaningful shift at a time, something you can commit to and sustain.”
asembl.group
Full-service events agency asembl.group embeds sustainability into every decision, aligning with ISO 20121 and working toward B Corp principles. Team members are trained in tools like Trace by isla to measure carbon impact and their group member Ecoform offers modular, recyclable event solutions. It has also adopted digital-first communications and encourage clients to choose carbon-conscious options.
CEO Gavin Farley says: “Sustainability isn’t a seasonal campaign—it’s embedded in how we think, operate, and deliver for our clients all year long.”
Broadsword:
Broadsword, a certified B Corp, takes a transparent, measurable approach to sustainability, maintaining carbon neutrality since 2022 and offsetting 100% of their emissions in 2024. It focuses on reducing print waste and foster shared accountability through staff training, eco initiatives, and partnerships with isla and event:decision.
Managing director Anna Green says: “We are determined to leave behind a positive impact, not a footprint, and believe every event is an opportunity to leave behind a legacy – inspiring audiences, driving conversation, and spark a different way of thinking including inspiring more sustainable practices.”
Evolve Events:
Full service events agency Evolve Events work with sustainable venues like Sands End and partners with Be In Your Element to embed wellbeing into their events. It has recently partnered with Eurostar and SCIB on their Go Sustainable study trip to promote sustainable travel and has also partnered with event:decisions to measure travel emissions and track the footprint of the Go Sustainable study trip to Switzerland, which scored a distinction for its ESG performance.
Peters says: “Sustainability is about trying to make conscious choices every day, not just on Earth Day. It’s not a campaign; it’s a commitment to rethinking how we plan and deliver events. From how we travel to where we host and who we collaborate with, we’re always looking for ways to lower our impact and create more meaningful experiences. It’s about doing better, for people and planet”
Strata:
Brand experience agency Strata embed sustainability into their core values through their “Win for the Planet” principle, which is integrated into business strategy and personal development plans. It is bronze EcoVadis accredited, align with the UN SDGs, and have been isla members since 2021, using carbon tracking tools and external consultants to shape their sustainability strategy. With a dedicated sustainability officer, they focus on waste reduction and ensure their practices meet evolving environmental standards.
emc3:
Since becoming a B Corp, emc3 has embedded sustainability into daily operations, supported by their acquisition of sustainability consultancy From Now and the use of tools like TRACE and Greenly to track environmental impact across events and operations. Every event includes a sustainability consultant, staff travel is carbon balanced, and post-event waste plans promote reuse and circularity. Internally, each team member sets personal sustainability goals, aligning individual growth with the company’s ESG values.
Head of sustainability, Saskya Liney says: “We’re also increasingly conscious that the events industry has long been a hugely wasteful one. That’s why it’s so rewarding for us to help shift the narrative – educating and empowering others to adopt more sustainable practices that make a real difference.
“Many agencies often view sustainability purely through an environmental lens. For us, sustainability also means considering people and supporting communities. It’s not just about reducing waste but about actively doing good. The key is to take action, no matter how small and build from there.”
Emota:
Event agency Emota launched Enviroplan in 2022 to rethink their operations, achieving notable CO2 savings across their experiences. Soon it will roll out Enviroplan 2.0, a broader sustainability strategy applied across all services. As a founding member of isla, it uses its tools for carbon reporting and have partnered with a supplier to create recyclable cardboard exhibition booths.
Mark Jackson, managing director says: “We love everything about our industry – except its impact on the environment. Over the past three years we have been compelled to innovate in our space, to offer our clients solutions to meaningfully improve the footprint of our experiences. Not only has this been morally the right thing to do, but this innovation has also helped drive a significant level of growth for Emota.”
